Internet & wifi
As expected, wifi and internet is widely available in Singapore, and all restaurants, bars and hotels offer free wifi.
It is easy to get internet on your cell phone, as many companies issue special ‘tourist’ sim cards, with prices starting from $20 US, depending on the package you choose. Sim cards can be purchased at any mobile phone provider in town or at the airport. Getting Sim cards is an easy and straight forward process, and staff will set up everything for you. You’ll need your passport to register. Good companies to use are StarHub, SingTel or China Unicom.
Getting around
Public transport in Singapore is excellent, and every area of the city state can easily be reached via bus or metro. Connections are very frequent and one never has to wait very long at a station. Several companies offer long distance bus services to many destinations in Malaysia. The railway service offers several trains a day to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
Money
Credit card payments can be used everywhere in Singapore, be it at restaurants, public transport or shops. However, cash payments are still common. Singapore’s currency is the Singapore Dollar.
Safety
Singapore is one of the safest countries in the world and crime is extremely low. However, laws are very strict and punishments for breaking rules are often severe. Adhere to the rules and in particular stay out of any drug related issues, as this will automatically mean several years in prison or worse.
Medical & healthcare
Medical facilities in Singapore are among the best in the world, and the city state boasts several excellent hospitals, as well as dental clinics.
Visas & immigration
Citizens of the EU, ASEAN, Canada, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, China, the UK and several other countries do not need to obtain a visa for Singapore. However, every visitor to Singapore needs to obtain the SG Arrival Card with an Electronic Health Declaration. The form can be found on the Singapore Immigration homepage and needs to be submitted the latest 3 days before arrival.
In order to enter Singapore, visitors also need to show proof of a double Covid-19 vaccination, as well as a negative PCR Test not older than 72 hours when entering.
